Software Engineer (Thessaloniki or Remote)
About the role
We are looking for a full-time software engineer to join our team in Thessaloniki (or remotely) and work alongside talented scientists and engineers on an impactful project in the field of sustainable transport.
At Ideas Forward we have been working closely with the Joint Research Centre (JRC) on multiple cutting-edge projects related to transport. JRC is the European Commission’s technical advisory arm, providing scientific advice and support to EU policy. This role concerns the development of a software system for the simulation of vehicle CO2 emissions. The purpose of the system is to provide a reliable tool for the automotive industry to use in calculating, and ultimately reducing, their carbon emissions.
Responsibilities:
- Work as part of a team of software developers, interfacing daily with transport emissions experts
- Develop and maintain modern desktop applications with C#
- Develop and maintain data processing logic with Python and JSON, XML, CSV
- Apply OO design patterns for high-quality code
- Contribute to system architecture design decisions
- Assist in the drafting of technical specs/documentation
Required:
- Postgraduate degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field
- 3+ years of experience in software development
- Past experience with C#
- High-level communication skills in English – verbal and written
- Ability to work in an international, multi-cultural environment
- Legal right to be employed in Greece
Considered a plus:
- Experience with Python
- Experience applying agile methods in software development, as part of a team
- Familiarity with test-driven development, code quality metrics, or benchmarking
- Experience with scripting (Bash, regular-expressions)
- Exposure to simulation or engineering algorithms, statistical or sensitivity analysis
